This is a year like no other we have known in living memory. Among all the difficult times of 2020, it has brought moments of thanks for what is precious to us: our freedom, feeling safe, friends, family, closeness, a hug or a touch. Thinking of what we have lost, helps us appreciate the life we have. These moments of reflecting on what has changed this year, helps bring thoughts of how others have made great sacrifices for us, such as in conflicts of war. 

As Remembrance Day 2020 approaches, we remember the sacrifice of the Armed Forces, and their families. We also pay tribute to the emergency services, and civilians who have lost their lives in conflict and acts of terrorism. The red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.

The poppy display is in front of Christchurch, on The Grove, Ilkley. It has been made by a large number of volunteers at Christchurch, to show our thanks to the armed forces and to all the key workers who have made sacrifices, and died in this COVID-19 pandemic. There are three trails of poppies; two of red, and one of blue. While the traditional red poppies help us remember the service of the armed forces, the blue poppies are to help us remember the service of all key workers.
