We support people with dementia in Scotland to make sure nobody faces dementia alone

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to support Alzheimer's Scotland.

Alzheimer's disease gradually damages the way the brain works, which affects a person's memory, ability to communicate, and their ability to make decisions and carry out their daily activities. It changes the stucture of your brain and causes your brain cells to die. Over time, as more and more areas of your brain become damaged, your symptoms will get progressively worse.

The disease develops slowly, usually over many years. People with alzheimer's disease usually live with the illness for serveral years but this depends on when you are diagnosed.

Eventually, Alzheimer's is fatal. However some people with Alzheimer's may die from other conditions, such as pneumonia, as their health gets worse.

Of the 750,000 people living with dementia in the UK, about 460,000 have Alzheimer's disease. Most people who develope the condition are over 65, although  it can also develop in younger people.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's disease, but there are treatments that can help to control your symptoms for a period of time.

The reason I have chosen this charity is because my own Grandad suffers from Alzheimer's and has done for many years now and I can tell you that it is a horrible, horrible disease that affects the whole family. To see somebody who you have looked up to and have admired your whole life with this disease is very hard to do.

So please think about the support these people and their families need, and the funds that are required to research Alzheimers further and the research that will possible one day help find a cure.

This will be the first Half Marathon I have ever run so giving myself plenty of time to train as I am looking to get a decent time, I ran the Mens Health 10K last year and doing it again this year.

Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Chris.

Thank you.
