Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page has been created to remember and commemorate the life of my father, Chris Giles who passed away in June 2020 with covid-19.

Not only was Chris my father, he was also a devoted husband to my late mother Cynthia up until her death in 1998 and spent the last 20 years as a loving partner to Sue, becoming an integral part of her family

Dad was born in Trowbridge Wiltshire on 9th July 1947 to Jean and Victor, the eldest of 3 siblings with a brother, Tony and his sister Susan. His was a happy childhood, he was bright, ambitious and somewhat cheeky. Being told that he needed a trade, upon leaving school he took an apprenticeship as a plumber. However his passion was always music...

He taught himself how to play the guitar and sang in a number of bands in the local area during the 60s, 70s and 80s, a paid hobby that he enjoyed immensely and with friends that remained throughout his life

Not wanting to carry on with a plumbing career Dad went into sales, and worked for a number of companies, always hiding the fact that he played in a band in case his employers felt he wasn’t committed enough

Then in 1976 his dream job came along, with the music distributor, Norlin. He stayed there a while and when he moved on he continued in the music industry, joining Premier Percussion (as it was then) and finally became Managing Director of Pearl Europe. His time at Pearl was incredibly happy, he was proud of his achievements there and retired having made many great friends throughout his working life.

In 2003 Dad and Sue moved to Spain and enjoyed retirement with a whole new circle of friends that shared the same love of wine, food and chit chat

Dad suffered with many health issues In the latter years but never once complained and always managed to keep smiling and joking

We will of course miss him immensely and we are aware that because his funeral must be a small private affair in the current circumstances most of his friends will be unable to join us in giving him the send off we would have liked . We do hope to be able to hold a celebration of his life at some point in the future

We have chosen the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity as the beneficiary for any donations in Dad’s name as they provided him with the most wonderful care several times during the last part of his life.

We thank you for any donation made in his name, no matter how large or small.
