Story
4 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After the initial shock, I decided to fight the big C and change my lifestyle and started cycling regularly to get my body strong - so much so that I covered 2700 miles in 2016 and am aiming to beat that mileage this year. I was also fortunate to be able to take part in a ground breaking trial of a revolutionary new treatment, and am now cancer free. Trials like this can only happen if funds are available, so I'm taking part in Football to Amsterdam, a pedal pilgrimage to the Dutch capital backed by The English Football League and the League Managers Association to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Every hour one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 10,800 men every year. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.Ignoring prostate cancer won't beat it. Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer. I am riding in memory of Kevin Twohig and Ian Jolliffe, both much loved men who have sadly lost their battles.
