Story
Sadly Chris Dobson, loving Dad to Ellie, Joe and Jeremy, and Wanda’s wonderful husband, passed away on 7 June 2022, shortly after being diagnosed with CJD which is a rare and rapid degenerative neurological disease that currently has no cure and is always fatal.
The National CJD Research & Surveillance Unit aims to monitor the characteristics of all forms of CJD, to identify trends in incidence rates, to study risk factors for the development of disease and to contribute to improving the quality of care for those with CJD. Based at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, the Unit brings together a team of clinical neurologists, neuropathologists, scientists and others.
All the money donated on this page will go to the University of Edinburgh Development Trust to administer specifically on behalf of the CJD Unit. We have been supported by their team since we had the diagnosis and we hope that any money raised will fund their research into finding a cure for this awful disease so that other families don’t need to suffer. Chris had a keen interest in science, having taught chemistry at Bootham school for 33 years prior to his retirement in 2014. We think he’d have approved of us raising awareness about this awful disease, and fundraising to help the scientists develop a cure.
We are grateful for anything you can donate. Thank you.
