Story
So it was unfortunate news that the marathon had to be cancelled by the New York Mayor, but totally understandable given the issues that people were still facing in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
I shall be rescheduling my first-marathon attempt so that you don't feel i've bailed on your sponsorship wishes! Rest assured your donations are being used by Save the Children to great effects, so thank you very much for your support.
I'll update here soon on which marathon I'll be in so I can still be tracked!.. maybe i can shave some more minutes off with a bit more training in the meantime!!
_________
I have my race number! I'm no 49781, and I've been selected to be in the VIP TV tent so may be on ESPN before the start of the marathon!

Back in Febuary of this year when I had agreed to run my first marathon - the New York Marathon no less - I probably never realised the day would actually come when I would have to do it. So less than 2 weeks away, and having actually run (only) half the distance at one time in training, I thought it would be a good idea to bring more meaning to the run - hence I am doing my first fundraising effort and would very much appreciate the support!
Training!
So my training schedule has been a bit of a rollercoaster:
1. Sitting and planning when to run
2. Eating to get energy to run
3. Buying trainers (dayglo) and running gadgets (HR monitor), so i'm well equipped to run
...and at some point I did get around to
4. Finally got into doing some actual running (partly due to an old school running nemesis also doing the marathon, had actually started running too).
I have managed to get some pretty 'respectable' short runs in. Now having done the London 10k run (48m45s), and a half marathon (1h46m), I have found myself in the taper down period having not quite hit the long run of 18 miles I intended... nevertheless, it's not meant to be easy, so I will aim to keep the running memory in the legs for the last few days. I plan to aim high and ideally make it through the hilly challenging course of the NYC marathon with a time to be proud of!
Donating:
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I chose Save the Children, as I wanted to support a charity that does amazing things to literally save the lives of children both in UK and across the globe, covering neglect, poverty, malnutrition, hunger, and many other things and situations that we'd not wish on anyone, let alone children who can barely fend for themselves.
I know many people fundraise, donate, and give to charity... so if you've fulfilled your personal quota for the year I acknowledge that people can't give to everyone... but if you can spare to donate, I'd be honoured to run the 26.2 miles of my personal madness with your donation to charity - i'll even try and make the HR monitor graph go that little bit higher.
All donations will go direct to charity - my marathon place, flights, etc are not sponsored and all covered by myself!
Thanks for reading - look out for updates post Nov 4th!!
