Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s back in 2006. Since that date, we have witnessed first-hand the impact an Alzheimer’s diagnosis can have on a family and would now like to show our support to the fantastic work of the Alzheimer’s Society. In doing so we wanted to pick a fund raising event that would be a real challenge and ‘earn’ the support of friends, family and colleagues…
Let us introduce the Marathon des Sables. According to the Discovery Channel the MdS is the toughest footrace in the world. In April this year we will be competing in the MdS and running for six days in the Sahara desert over a 256 km course. The rules require us to be self-sufficient, and with the exception of water and a place in a tent to sleep at night, we will have to carry all equipment and food in rucksacks. Just to make things a bit more spicy the temperature peaked at 56C in the 2013 race!
We appreciate that there are lots of people out there seeking sponsorship for a range of worthy causes but hope that you will support our efforts and make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society. Latest estimates suggest that there are 32.6 million sufferers worldwide but by 2050 it is estimated that this number will increase to 1 in 85 people globally. Unfortunately current treatments only help with the symptoms of the disease. However recent research indicates that there is now genuine hope that a cure may be identified in the foreseeable future but this research requires funding.
Many thanks in advance for your support.
