Story
In August, I’m taking part in my longest, hardest cycle ride yet. 1,540km or 957 miles riding from London to Edinburgh and back in 5 days (125 hours to be precise). Friends tell me the ride is harder mentally than physically to ride 300km+ each day with just a few hours of sleep. I don’t normally ask for sponsorship for cycle rides, for this one I’m making an exception for to help my local food bank, the Alexander Wylie Foundation at the Ringcross Community Centre who support the local community from the tough times of the pandemic furlough to the current cost of living crisis.
My support has been through the Islington Cycle Club as one of the 40+ volunteers that collect food from the local shops in North London (thank you everyone).
Each week, the foodbank supports 400 families / 1,000 people with fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cooking oil and other essential staples. 50 deliveries are made to housebound disabled and elderly people. AWTF works alongside the Ringcross Community Centre to provide other services.
Each pound you donate will be used for two things. First, buying essential items to top up donations for the local community and business – simple things like sanitary products, baby formula and nappies. Second, the day to day maintenance of the food bank as unfortunately they receive no government funding.
Please donate what you can, it will keep me pushing the pedals to Edinburgh and back.
