Story
So for 2018 I'd like to try and give back to those who helped Leo and our family..
Leo had a challenging and hard fought short life. Leo had to be resuscitated at birth.. open heart surgery at 9 weeks old.. a very rare chromosome abnormality which was believed to be the cause of his many respiratory problems and intensive care stays. With all of Leos problems and struggles he was the happiest little boy and the light of our lives. Leo was just 2 years and 7 months when he was diagnosed with a rare form of neuroblastoma... Cancer.. being told that news was just indescribable... the rug is pulled from beneath your feet with news like that. From finding a lump on Leo's side to being transferred to Leeds LGI to seeing consultants to preparing for treatment all moved so fast.. Leo was deteriorating fast, the conversations with experts becoming more difficult day by day, sadly within 2 weeks we lost Leo.. he past away peacefully in mum and dads(me &Nic's) arms. Our world has fallen apart... we will forever miss Leo. I need something to focus On, I need something to turn all of this sadness and hurt into a positive.
I would like to try and help raise money for other families and children that are fighting this horrible disease... We feel that Leo was stolen from us so quickly with out a chance to save him. If we can help to fund research or to help give others a better chance against this horrible disease that's got to develop a brighter future for all.
I have 2 main challenges I'm taking part in. The first is a huge.. almost insane personal challenge. On May 9th I will be solo running.. jogging or even walking coast to coast from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay along the Wainwrights walk/path which is 192 miles long... my plan is to do this over 6 days unless this goes really well and then it'll be 5 days..
The second..
I am being part of a British Steel team to cycle from coast to coast in a day on June 23rd. There are 13 members in the team taking part. This is 150 miles to be completed in a single day.. from Seascale to Whitby. This is far from a flat course with 4500m of ascent over the 150 miles and is a huge achievement even foe seasoned riders.
Riders taking part are Andrew Clayton, Martyn Clift, Nigel Smaller, Neil Ingall, Matt France, Dave Hampshire, Mick Sarsfield, Dave White, Martyn Rigg, Liam Buttrick, Stephen Dale, Jamie Simpson and Chris Spavin.
Thanks Chris & Nic
