Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Action Challenge South West Cost 50 ultramarathon on 6th August. The hilly 50 km route, with over 1 600 m of ascent, starts in Dunster, takes the initial section of the South West Coast Path from Minehead to Porlock and then heads inland up Dunkery Beacon, over Exmoor and back to Dunster. Whilst I have been a keen runner for some time, this run is a significant step up for me.
I’ve been training with this event in mind for the last year or so. Fitting the training in alongside family life and my busy job has been quite challenging, but I am pleased with how my training has gone so far. I’ve had to make time to train by getting up very early in the morning, which meant a lot of running in the cold and dark (and wet!) during the winter. However, currently, I’m finding running in the stunning Devon countryside in the spring sunshine much more enjoyable. My aim for the challenge is to complete the whole course (including the hills) without walking. I will have to increase my training in the coming months to achieve this.
I’m raising money for the MS Society because I imagine that, for people with MS, everyday jobs, like going to the shops, can feel like running an ultramarathon. I have so much admiration for people who are able to meet the demands of daily life despite this disability. Indeed, I find their determination inspirational. The MS Society conducts research into treatments and potential cures for MS and they state that “we won’t give up until we’ve stopped MS for good”. Let’s hope they can find a cure soon.
