Twenty three years ago my Mum died, needlessly, from bowel cancer after being ill for over two years. During that time, the doctors didn't spot what was wrong with her because there wasn't the awareness that there is now.

This is a curable cancer and Mum could have been saved had it been spotted early enough. She died two months before she was due to retire and missed my 30th birthday, my wedding and the retirement that she had planned with my Dad.

Recently, a young friend has been diagnosed and is receiving treatment and I want not only to raise awareness so people spot the symptoms and seek help early but also that the resources are there to provide that help.
