Story
When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.
When I was younger, my granddad suffered a stroke which robbed him of his speech and much of his movement. More recently, my dad had a stroke, but successful surgery ensured he made almost a full recovery. Unlike one of my closest friends, David, who suffered a massive stroke 5 years ago, just before his 51st birthday. The stroke resulted in him being “locked in”, until a chest infection took him a few weeks later. He was a lovely man, and had a positive impact on everyone he met.
Shortly after the 5th anniversary of his death, I am raising funds for all victims of strokes. This is meant to complement the admirable fundraising that David’s husband, Kerim, and his many friends have done to date..
So, at the latter end of my mid-50s, it’s my turn, and I am training for my FIRST HALF MARATHON.
Even if you can’t afford anything, a message of support would be gratefully received.
