Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
On Monday 1st April 2019 Jacob (Known as Ej by family & friends) suddenly fell ill. Ej was bluelighted by ambulance in the early hours of Tuesday 2nd April to Sheffield Children's Hospital. Myself and my wife were not able to travel with Ej at this point, as Ej was so ill - he had just been revived. Shortly after arriving at the PICU Ej was taken into theatre and this is when they found Ej's small bowel had become severely twisted. To save Ej they had to remove the twisted bowel. Ej was left with 5cm of small bowel.
We were then gievn the news that Ej would be put on PN (Parental Nutrients) meaning he would be fed via a tube directly into his veins, this meant Ej and all of us would have to make huge life changes and sacrifices, it meant no swimming, limited participation in sports due to being connected to a pump for multiple hours per day. Of course this news was devastating but Dr Bevan and the intensive care team were positive and upbeat.
A home from home…
Ej spent the next 5 months at Sheffield Childrens Hospital receovering from numerous surgeries and of course allowing myslef and Mummy to learn how to adminsiter PN. The Doctors and Nursing teams were amazing.
At last Ej was able to come home but didnt eat nor need to and while Ej was doing very well and may have a long life ahead on PN. From the minute Ej fell ill to the 14th September 2019 myself and Mummy knew we wanted Ej to be considered fro transplant, a surgery that would change his and our lifes forever.
With great thanks to Dr Urs and his team at Sheffield, we were finally given the oportunity to meat Dr Gupte and Mr Shariff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Following an assessment in March 2019 it was decided Ej would be put on the transplant list.
4:30am September 14th 2019! THE CALL..
Ej would journey to Birmingham Childrens Hospital for life changing surgery!
We have chosen to recreate Jacobs Journey - 90miles of gruelling ups and downs between Sheffield Childrens and Birmingham Childrens to raise as much money as we possibly can for Sheffield Childrens while raising awareness of organ donation which has given our little boy his life back. Let’s support these amazing hospitals so that they can continue changing the lifes of so many children!
Our special heart felt prayers and thanks go out to all families who have opted to donate during the most difficult of times and of course to the family who gave Ej his life back.
Please give what you can, its means the world to us and everyone who has met Ej.
Thank you.
