Story
I raised over £2000 last year by running the Great Manchester Half Marathon and the Great North Run.
This year I am hoping to add a couple of events, and to raise a little more. Starting with the Wolverhampton 10km run on 26th March, I am going on to the Great Birmingham half marathon in May, the Great North Run in September, and hopefully the Amsterdam half marathon in October.
My mum was diagnosed with dementia about 5 years ago. She and my dad live in Spain, and we don’t get to see them much. When I was last over there, in October, she did not recognise me. She recognised her two grandchildren, though, which is something.
My dad is her carer. At 86, he is doing a great job and, late in life, has taken on hero status in my eyes. There are people like them all over this country, struggling along, and smiling when they can in the face of the long goodbye.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
