Our food bank is a lifeline for those in crisis, providing weekly emergency food parcels to families in Walker and Byker. When we can, we also offer essential hygiene products, baby supplies, and pet food.

Story

What started out as a way to get my boys, James (age 11) and Lucas (age 9) off Fortnite and out in the fresh air turned in to trying to cycle to Manchester. This is a total distance of 156 miles or 1,200 laps of our estate.

I'm proud that the boys wanted to try and raise some money for the charity I chair in Newcastle (Building Futures East).

Building Futures East charity have been running for over 13 years supporting community development in the east end of Newcastle. We're based in Walker ward which is one of the most deprived wards in the North East and people we support overcome many challenges on a daily basis. Even before the crisis, 42% of residents in Walker struggled to access food and 1/3 of the population live with long-term health conditions or disabilities.Families in Newcastle are struggling to make ends meet during the crisis. Since the coronavirus hit, we have opened an emergency food bank delivering parcels directly to people in need. We need your help to keep the project going.
