Story
2023: Graham Oakes sadly passed away on 19 September 2023 at the age of 89. The family is grateful for the many kind words of support. Any donation in lieu of flowers is sincerely appreciated. Thank you.
2022: In aid of Cure Parkinson’s we are running The Great North Run Half Marathon, followed by the London Marathon only three weeks later, on the 2nd October. This charity holds an extremely special place in our family’s heart, as well over ten years ago our Grandad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
This is a true bucket list moment for us both, and is without question the biggest challenge we have ever faced. Despite spending much of our working week travelling to and from Derby together, unbeknown to one another, we both had the same fantastic (and slightly mad) idea of running the London Marathon for Cure Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological disease caused by the loss of dopamine-producing nerve cells in the brain which control movement, making everyday activities extremely difficult. There is currently no cure, but there are a range of therapies available to make living with the disease more manageable, however, over time symptoms continue to progress. Cure Parkinson’s are dedicated to transforming lives; finding new and improved treatments and to one day finding a cure.
Over the years we’ve seen first hand the massive impact Parkinson’s can have. We’re both so proud of our grandad who like so many others has shown amazing bravery and resolve. We’re equally proud of our Nan who even at the age of 88, continues to offer all of the love and care in the world.
It is our ambition to raise a minimum of £5,000 to support this wonderful charity and any donations, no matter how small, would be mean the world.
Thank you for your support
