Story
second leg was a bit slower but much better since I got off A17 and onto A15 :-) really enjoying trip so far weAther has improved a lot since I left :-)
Knockhill Challenge is go! First leg went really well Wymonvdham to Kings Lynn in an hour brilliant start
In 2010 my father was rushed into hospital with liver failure. As a family we were all devastated. A brilliant team of doctors at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital did everything they could to save his life, which they did, twice in October that year. He went home just before Christmas and his health seemed to improve.
However, in February 2011 Dad was rushed back into hospital and again we were all on tenterhooks. He eventually went home in May 2011. By this time we knew that he had a rare condition. Life went on for a while, Dad still farming and doing what he could, but he began to take naps more and more. As time went on Dad began to get confused and started having falls for no apparent reason and on one occasion broke a rib leaving him very badly bruised.
One day the hallucinations started, which were awful, and then he started getting shaky hands and was struggling to keep food on a fork to feed himself. When he went into hospital again, we really didn't know what to expect.
By January 2012 Dad was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy, another rare condition. Since this diagnosis my dear father has been bed ridden. It breaks my heart to see him this way knowing that there is no cure for this devastating disease. Having led such an active life it is hard to accept and see my father in bed permanently knowing he will never walk again.
With your help I hope to not only raise funds for The MSA Trust, but more importantly raise awareness of Multiple System Atrophy. There is no cure for this disease and being a progressive neurological condition affecting the brain cells, it has a devastating affect on patients and their families.
This trip will be very challenging for me. 800 miles may not seem that far, but I suffer with Fibromyalgia, which in itself is challenging to deal with. The symptons I experience are swollen joints and chronic fatigue. For this reason I have broken the trip up into stages so my body has time each day to recover ensuring I can complete the trip.
How could your sponsorship help the Trust?
£10 could supply detailed information to the healthcare team caring for one person with MSA
£20 could provide welcome support packs to three families affected by MSA
£50 could cover the cost of venue hire and refreshments for one regional MSA support group meeting
£150 could cover the daily cost of manning our telephone and email helpline
£500 could supply an MSA nurse at two specialist MSA clinics
£1,000 could pay for our support line for one week – providing vital support to around 60 families
£2,500 could deliver teaching sessions to health and care professionals for six months
£100,000 could fully cover our annual commitment to new research
My challenge is to ride my Honda CBR250RR to the British Superbikes race meet at Knockhill in Dunfirmline Scotland. It is an 800 mile round trip and will be a challenging ride. While at the race meet I will be taking photographs to raise further funds for charity.
