Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. At the time of writing, I have never actually ran more than a 10k, but I’m guessing 26.2 miles can’t be much farther than that right?!
So why am I running the London Marathon, instead of watching it laying on the sofa like I usually do?
It all goes back to 2017, when my wife and I received the news that our 1 week old son, Leo, had an incredibly rare and complex liver condition. It came out of the blue. It turned our life upside down. It felt like a nightmare. Leo’s illness progressed very quickly. At 16 days old he received a life-saving liver transplant, in a high-risk 12 hour operation, which went well. We stayed in the hospital for 72 days, including 30 in intensive care. We became experts in medical terminology and the human body, and we tried to support each other at a time when we most needed support ourselves. Leo is now a very happy, cheeky, beautiful, four and a half year old, and he has a wonderful sense of enjoyment for life.
I’m running because:
- I know how valuable the research CLDF is for these children.
- The support CLDF give to families is so important.
- I met many inspirational children in hospital who deserve the best support possible.
- Leo has taught me that the greatest struggles can lead to the most beautiful outcomes. This marathon will be a struggle for sure!
