Story

On 14th June 2015 I’ll be taking part in Ironman 70.3 (a half Ironman) in Staffordshire  and I will be raising money for The Katie Compson Foundation, a separate identifiable fund within the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The Katie Compson Foundation was set up by Katie’s family after she passed away in 2011.  The Foundation has the twin objectives of improving the management of pain for cancer patients in the NHS and supporting research into cancer treatments.

In 2014, the Foundation launched the Katie Compson Pain Database that will track, measure and ultimately help treat the pain that cancer patients endure.

I didn’t have the opportunity to know Katie but I know Sarah, Katie's sister, and how hard she and the Compson family work in her memory which is why, for the first time, I'm doing a triathlon to raise money rather than just for the hell of it.  Despite having a number of (slow and painful) endurance events under my belt, including two (very slow and painful) full Ironman races, I’ve never asked for cash so just this once I’d be very grateful if you could spare a donation and I won’t ask again anytime soon.

About the charity

We raise money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
