Sepsis arises when your body's response to an infection spirals rapidly out of control, injuring it's own tissues and organs. Sepsis is life-threatening. Over 52,000 people in the UK die from sepsis every year. This is more than bowel and prostate cancer combined.
Sepsis Research FEAT is a funder and supporter of the GenOMICC research study being conducted by Dr Kenneth Baillie at the Roslin Institute. Their pioneering work aims to discover specific genes that control the processes that lead to life-threatening illness. By understanding these processes, they hope to design effective treatments. To conduct their research they need to collect and store DNA samples from thousands of critically ill patients.
Funding from Sepsis Research FEAT helps them do that.
This genes based research is vitally important in our mission to #stopsepsisnow.
