We provide palliative and end of life care to those living with life-limiting illness

Story

The directors, managers and staff at Spire FM were shocked and saddened to hear the terrible news that our friend and former colleague Chris Ewington had passed away on March 17th at Salisbury Hospice, following a year long battle with cancer.

Chris began his broadcasting career at Spire FM covering Salisbury City matches on a Saturday afternoon before taking over the Sunday Evening show and making it his own with his distinctive voice, great sense of humour and a real love of music.

It wasn’t long before Chris moved to weekday afternoons where he was an instant hit with the many listeners across Salisbury and beyond.

In 2006 Chris was one half of the new breakfast show launched on Spire FM, waking up South Wiltshire and West Hampshire.

The 6 years that followed saw Chris broadcast live from Jamaica, rub shoulders with a host of stars and even take part in an early morning Police raid!

During his time at Spire, Chris was a huge supporter of local charities including Stars Appeal, Salisbury Hospice and Lucy’s Days Out.

Chris gave his backing to the Stars Appeal's CT Scanner campaign during his illness and used his story to help explain why the new equipment was so well needed. The charity's described him as a 'long term supporter and friend'.

Chris will be greatly missed by all at the radio station past and present.

All donations will be split between Salisbury Hospice and St Peters Church, Pitton at the request of the family.
