Story
Hi,
In March 2012 my Mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer, she has been through radiotherapy, an operation to remove the tumour, more chemotherapy and unfortunately we lost her to the disease in May 2014. She was extremely brave throughout and will be dearly missed by many, a truly great woman.
Until this happened I never knew how many people were effected by bowel cancer, around 1 in 17 people and it's the UK's second biggest cause of cancer deaths. Beating Bowel Cancer supports patients, raises awareness to encourage early diagnosis and saves lives.
I've taken on the challenge of summiting Mont Blanc in June 2014. At 4810m (15781ft) it is the highest mountain in Western Europe and presents many mental and physical challenges. To prepare for this I will be doing a winter skills course in Scotland, to learn how to use ice axes and crampons and to show me how to be aware of the ever present risk of avalanche.
I have part in the White Rose Classic (110 miles) & Mills Hills (70 miles) cycle sportives to get myself in good physical condition. I also plan to do back to back Yorkshire Three Peaks in the early months of 2014, where I will be setting off and finishing in the dark (probably in bad weather) to prepare me for the 3am start on summit day of Mont Blanc.
I will be in the safe hands of the guides from http://www.jagged-globe.co.uk/ who have been very helpful in setting up the trip.
