On the 13th November 2009 I will be taking part in a 7 day trek across the Sahara Desert in aid of the Manchester United Foundation.
The Foundation was created to help disadvantaged children in some of the most deprived areas of Manchester.
I became involved with the Foundation through my work as a Police Officer in the Xcalibre Task Force, dealing with Gun and Gang crime in the Moss Side, South Manchester and Trafford areas.
These areas are some of the most socially deprived in England and children in these areas are vulnerable to getting embroiled in the Gun and Gang culture. The risks this poses to individual children is acute and has been recognised by the Foundation.
This is the first trek to be done by the Foundation. Also taking part are ex United players, Dennis Irwin and Andy Ritchie. The entire trek will be followed by the club's official television station, MUTV. It will also feature in the One United magazine.
I feel priviledged to be invited to take part in such a challenge and given the opportunity to raise funds for such a worthy cause. I will hopefully make a difference to the lives of children in these communities.
Thank you again for your generosity
Chris
