In March 2020 our 5 week old daughter, Sophia, was admitted to Sheffield’s children’s hospital with respiratory difficulties and 3 holes in her heart. We were immediately offered a place at Magnolia House,, one of their ‘Homes from Home’. This meant we could be by Sophia’s side 24/7 and give us a place to rest and sleep.

In April when Sophia was transferred to LGI for heart surgery, the trust was again there to support us by providing a room at Eckersley House, directly opposite the hospital. 

Sophia spent 6 months in hospital battling pneumonia, sepsis, heart failure, seizures and open heart surgery. This was the toughest 6 months of our lives but knowing that we had somewhere to stay, sleep and escape constant beeping machines made life easier.

Sophia has now been home a year and has made a remarkable recovery. With one more surgery to go we know we can rely on the amazing team at  the Sick Children’s Trust #teamsct
