Story
Contribute to my fundraising for the amazing Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Charity and win a prize!
After celebrating my 60th Birthday by completing the 2019 RideLondon100 in five hours on my trusty Pinarello road bike, I decided to do this fantastic event using an e-bike this year (Tempus Fugit after all).
No it's not cheating! I am still training on my road and mountain bike as before, but to make it more challenging I decided to use a folding 20-inch wheel e-bike. A bike usually used for cycling IN London, not for 50 miles OUT of and 50 miles back into London.
GOCYCLE
Gocycle have kindly lent me a sexy part carbon-fibre G4i+ (My G3 pictured). Gocycle's mission is to sustainably mobilise the world with a better bike. To spice things up we are going to see how far I can get on one battery – hence the sweepstake. Gocycle is one of the most efficient users of battery energy you can buy so our expectations are high.
SOLARCYCLE
Solarcycle provide charging stations for e-bikes. In order to make my ride fully sustainable, it will be powered only by the sun and me. Solarcycle will charge my batteries in advance so I will take nothing from the national grid and hopefully demonstrate how to cover 100 miles comfortably and in the most completely sustainable fashion possible!
SHOOTING STAR
- cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, they are here to make every moment count. They support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
The Pull Agency has supported Shooting Star since 2015. We have raised funds, staff have volunteered to work on maintenance at hospices and in their shops, and Pull has done pro bono marketing work for them.
HOW FAR DO YOU THINK I CAN GET ON ONE BATTERY?
There will be a prize for the most accurate estimate. As a rough guide, Gocycle suggest I will get between 30 and 50 miles. Obviously this will depend on a number of things including how much effort I put in.
Just put a number of miles as your guess in the comments when you make a donation!
