Chris’s Increased 1000 Km! Swim around Devon Challenge, for BDMLR
I am taking on the challenge of swimming 550Km
in 220 days. Or I was, until I was accused of under selling the challenge of
dealing with the Devon Coastline.
The distance around Devon if done simply around the
edge, is 550Km. Which I thought was a reasonable challenge. However, the full measured distance of Devon’s Coastline is 819Km, making it the third largest Coastline in the UK and the only County in the UK to have two totally separate coastlines with hours of driving between them. I will also be swimming my challenge like a seal on the surface, no front crawl, no goggles.
I like making things difficult for myself, but could do with a lot of encouragement. Please donate what you can to support
British Divers Marine Life Rescue, and our amazing marine mammals. https://www.justgiving.com/.../Chris-Berry-Swim-Around....
As the Devon Coordinator for British Divers Marine Life Rescue. I am always striving to better educate the public, and better resource and train our volunteer medics across the county and beyond. I have now helped train over 1000 Volunteer medics to do this amazing work. Helping the charity to swiftly respond and appropriately treat our amazing marine life. In a County this spread, with such a long and busy coastline, that is never easy. So, neither should my challenge be. I am no great swimmer, and I intend on restricting myself further by only using head up breaststroke like a seal at the surface, to swim 819 Kilometres. Which is equivalent to swimming the full circumference of the Devon’s Coast. This is equal to 32,760 lengths of a standard swimming pool, and I will need to complete the challenge within 220 days. Meaning averaging 150 lengths, or over 3.72Km every single day without fail. I estimate it will take me 350 hours and burn approx. 490,000 calories.
Please support me and give generously, so we can
continue our great work. I understand though that these are tough times for all
so, anything you can afford is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris Berry.
