Story
On October 20 a charity event called Shocktober is being held at the Newcastle Quayside and is aimed at raising monies for various charities. My nominated charity for this day is The Stroke Association and as a way of raising money I will be doing a sponsored zip slide off the Tyne Bridge down to the Quayside dressed as Superman.
I have chosen this charity for several reasons; recently a elderly family member was diagnosed as have had several ‘mini-Strokes’ which had caused memory loss. This was originally thought to have been old age/dementia as the normal Stoke characteristics were not noticeable. I therefore wanted to help improve the awareness of what the Stroke Association does to support all aspects of Stroke related issues.
The Stroke Association provides high quality, up-to-date stroke information and support for stroke patients, their families and carers.
Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. That's one person every five minutes. Most people affected are over 65, but anyone can have a stroke, including children and even babies.
