Story

This year St Lukes are celebrating 35 years of care so Chris has (reluctantly) volunteered to take part in the The Midnight Walk. She's even agreed to walking the full 11 miles rather than the shorter option (6 miles). I'll be going with her too so we can cheer each other on.

Training is going pretty well so far now that everyone has the appropriate footwear but we haven't tried anything late at night yet. I'm guessing it will all be a little different after dark but with the support of people around us and the organisers and marshalls I'm sure we'll do great.

St Luke's do a fantastic job providing respite and end of life care in their ten bed unit. Nana Kath loved it there despite her having to be there due to being unwell. They got her eating better and helped set up carers to allow her to come home for one final Christmas and New Year. As well as providing this essential care St Luke's provide family counselling and support, social work and benefits advice, memory recording services, spiritual care and chaplaincy team, support at home, homelessness services and even Christie cancer centre clinics allowing people to receive much needed treatment without the sometimes exhausting trek to Manchester.

All of this is provided free to patients and carers and only about 16% of St Luke's funding comes from government leaving the rest to come from lottery, fundraising and St Luke's shops. This is where you come in. Please donate what you can as it all adds up. Hopefully we can help some people to have a better quality of life, support some families and take the pressure off just for a little while.
