Story
Where do I start?
My name is Sandra Irving and I have always been aware of various causes for charities and with recent events, I thought it was time for me to raise money for a charity that became
personal to me in 2007. In 2007 my mother was diagnosed with Myeloma and it took the family by surprise. My mother has always been a loving, caring, respectable God fearing woman. This news did not diminish my mother’s views on life as she carried on living positively despite going through constant hospital trips to have radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.
2018
The year of 2018 was a difficult one as the cancer was spreading quickly. The doctors realised the normal chemotherapy my mother was receiving was not working so they decided to trial a new chemotherapy treatment. This resulted in her being hospitalised as the new chemotherapy treatment the doctors gave her did not agree with her body. Sadly, the doctors placed her on end of life palliative care as there was nothing more they could do. My mother was given a few months to live which was devastating news to hear. We as a prayerful Christian family did not accept this and left this situation to God.
Present day
By God's Grace my Mother is still HERE!!
Since 2007, it has been an emotional rollercoaster with ups and downs but I am happy my mother is still here. Recently on her visit to the hospital a blood test was taken and she received a call from the Hematology unit. My mother was told that the Myeloma
was spreading and she has not got long left to live. In the words of my mother 'Only God can determine when it is my time to go home and be with the Lord'.
My mothers journey has been inspirational as she has always remained strong despite the struggles she is going through. My mother has always teased me asking “when
are you going to cut your dreadlocks?” which is why this is the perfect opportunity to raise money by doing a BIG CHOP FOR MYELOMA!
Ps I have been growing my hair for 17 years!
I would be extremely grateful if you would be able to donate as much as you can as this is for a very good cause that is personal to me. Hopefully one day with all the money raised there can be new ways of treatments and even maybe a cure!
Blessings to all of you
Sandra
