Story
It's always been a dream to run the London Marathon and it's an honour to be running for Alzheimer's Research UK.
All four of my Grandparents suffered from Dementia/ Alzheimer's and unfortunately the presence of this disease consumes my lasting memories of each of them before their deaths. Its heart breaking to see people you love become completely different people.
Why do we need to do something?
- Every 3 minutes someone new in the UK develops Dementia
- 15.9% of women died of Alzheimer's/Dementia in 2019 - making it the leading cause of death for women in the UK
- 8.8% of men died of Alzheimer's/Dementia in 2019 - making it the second leading cause of death for men in the UK
- In the UK, Dementia is the only condition in the top 10 causes of death without a treatment to prevent, cure or slow it's progression
Why should we support Alzheimer's Research UK?
- The total funding commitment since its start in 1992 has totalled more than £117,500,000
- Since Alzheimer's Research UK was founded 1992 they've been awarded 909 grants for pioneering research
- For every £1 donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK in 2018/19,
77p powered their research and helped people to understand and take action on dementia. 23p helped to raise the next £1 and fund essential running costs
