We are doing the Great South Run on Sunday 16th October . We are a team from Chiddingfold Surgery , Surrey.

We are raising money for a local charity and Cardiomyopathy UK , a great charity that raise money to research the causes and treatments for Cardiomyopathy- a cardiac disorder

Our practice nurse Henny's 36 year old son-in-law Oli discovered in January last year that the feeling of 'woofiness' which was making him feel odd (dizziness, vagueness and shortness of breath) was actually as a result of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).

With the incredible support of the NHS and thanks to all the research into the different forms of cardiomyopathy (in essence thickening of the heart muscle affecting blood flow) by Cardiomyopathy UK , he underwent major open heart surgery , which within days gave him his life back.

He is no longer dizzy and breathless and his risk of a fatal cardiac event has reduced to near normal levels.

HOCM and other forms of cardiomyopathy are often 'silent' diseases - which can lead to life-changing consequences for sufferers and their loved ones.

Running the Great South Run , we hope to raise money for Cardiomyopathy UK. This will help fund their research into helping diagnose and support those with life-limiting and threatening disease as well as improving treatment.
