With only 2 months away until I run the 26 mile Jersey Marathon I wanted to share with you why I’m raising money for this specific charity. Jersey Action Against Rape. 

Jersey Action Against Rape is a charity that deals with rape and abuse survivors on a daily basis and have helped many friends of mine. 

As a child I was abused for many years by what was supposed to be a family member, I was also one of the 90% not believed and disowned by one side of the family because of it, at the time I came forward (around 13 years old) there was no such charity available and I dealt with what had happened and being disbelieved by drinking, running away, going in and out of care homes and foster families before eventually and not surprisingly landing myself in prison serving a 3 and a half year sentence for attacking a paedophile. 

Thankfully I came out the other side, with qualifications behind me and the need to help others. I do not need sympathy messages on this post, I am not a victim but sharing a story often helps others feel ready to come forward. 

When I look back I think about how things may have been different if there was someone there to offer help, advice and counselling. It is so important that victims are offered the support they so badly need, wether it’s advice, counselling, help coping with court or help coping with an outcome that wasn’t expected.
