Story
Did you know that dementia is the UK’s biggest killer? I didn’t. And I hadn’t seen the devastation it causes. That was until I met my close friend’s mum, Pam, at Sam’s 40th a few years ago.
That night, I could see instantly where Sam gets her warmth and love of dancing from. Pam danced the night away to the 90’s dance band with a huge smile on her face. She radiated a genuine aura of warmth and love.
Yet, over the past few years, I’ve seen the devastating effects this awful disease has had on Pam, and untold heartbreak it’s causing to Sam, and the family.
And as a friend there are just no words…. no words I can say or do to make it better. And quite frankly that’s shit. This disease is shit. It’s cruel, it’s destructive and it’s unfair.
So, instead of words I am walking.
Walking with Sam and also Jen - who lost her much loved mother-in-law, Rose, earlier this year to this awful disease. Our team: Sam, Jen, Dani, Vic, Clare, Lindsey and I, AKA the ‘Heathfield Hotties’ (name given after a few vinos!) 😊 want to raise as much £££ as we can to help the Alzheimer’s Society fight back.
We’re walking for Pam and in memory of Rose... and for all those affected.
We’d love to fund vital research, and to help those suffering, who have suffered, and who will suffer. Someone develops this disease every three minutes… every three minutes. And there is no cure. It’s a scary fact. So, if you can spare a few pennies to support us – please do. Every penny counts.
