Story
Daredevils are being sought to take part in the Lord Mayor’s annual sponsored abseil.
Now in its eighth year, volunteers will descend from Bradford’s Central Library on Saturday, 16 April.
Last year’s event raised over £6,000 for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and participants included Bradford Council’s Chief Executive Tony Reeves, six Sea Cadets, and a brave 74-year-old.
This year’s abseil, which will be managed by Bradford Council's Sport and Leisure Service's Adventure Team, will raise funds for Nell Bank. The inclusive activity centre in Ilkley offers day and residential outdoor education to schools and other community groups.
The chosen charity has special significance because the first abseil in 2004 was organised by a young volunteer from Nell Bank.
Lord Mayor of Bradford Coun Peter Hill said: "This is a unique opportunity to have a panoramic view of the city centre and to raise funds for a new on-site outdoor play area at Nell Bank."
There is a £10 registration fee and volunteers have to guarantee they will raise a further £30 of sponsorship. Those who successfully complete the abseil will receive a certificate from the Lord Mayor and a commemorative T-shirt as a small token of appreciation.
