Story
After 7 years service I will be leaving Birmingham City Council in October. Instead of a leaving gift I would be very happy if you would make a donation to the Eve Brook Scholarship Fund through this Just Giving site. The charity was set up to celebrate the achievements of young people who are, or have been, in care in Birmingham City Council, by giving them help to go to college or University. I have been involved with this Fund as a Trustee over the years and it is a charity dear to my heart.
Eve Brook was a Councillor and Chair of Birmingham Social Services Committee for many years and before she died, requested that a Trust Fund to support young people in care be set up. This is her legacy.
Her husband, the playwright David Edgar, has been the Chair of the Fund since then and has been personally a fantastic support to young people who have benefited from the Fund.
Since the formation of the Fund in 1998 they have spent over £120,000 supporting 90 young people through scholarships to cover part or all of their fees and/or living expenses and through smaller one off grants to assist with expenses incurred for their specific courses eg catering equipment, laptops, cameras etc. For the current year they are supporting 5 young people.
All funds come from individual donations and fundraising. They could do so much more with your help.
All donations will go straight to the young people who need it.
