Story

Hi all for anyone who knows myself, Aishling & lorcan you will know we sadly lost our wonderful dad Michael and Mam lost her husband of 43 years on 3rd July.Daddy had been sick for a relatively short period of time, he was diagnosed with lymphoma on 30th November 2020 and started chemo on 15th December. He had 6 cycles and in March 2021 we received the most fabulous news that he was cancer free. Sadly our joy was short lived and his cancer returned aggressively in May. He spent 6 long weeks in Beaumont Hospital before we eventually got him home. The first night he was at home we didnt have a night nurse and it was harder than words can describe. The relief we felt the next day when told by our palliative nurse that we had been granted a night nurse was unbelievable. The knowledge that we would have help and support during those dark night hours was overwhelming. Sadly we only availed of the night nurse for 2 nights before Daddy lost his battle. Our wonderful night nurse Mairead who was with us the night he passed away was like an angel sent from heaven. she looked after us in addition to the wonderful care she gave Daddy and we will be forever grateful to her and the Irish Cancer Society for providing this fabulous service to families and patients when they are at their most vulnerable and literally running on empty. This service is priceless to those who need to avail of it. If you can give any donation at all we would be so grateful and in return for all sponsorship, we will be doing our Night Walk on Mon 6th September at 11pm, which is the time a night nurse starts their shift!

Thank you so much, Ann, Cheryl, Aishling & Lorcan.

The money you have donated will go directly towards helping the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service, which provides end of life care for cancer patients in their own home, allowing them to pass away at home surrounded by family and loved ones as well as giving much needed respite for the family caring for them.
