Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Emily is 7 years old, she is my eldest daughter. Emily and Brandon are good friends and classmates. At the beginning of December Brandon was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This means that at 7 years old he has to check his glucose levels before every meal and throughout the day and then has to inject himself with the correct amount of insulin to balance out the glucose in the food he is about to eat. Brandon has been an absolute star! He has been so brave and has dealt with it all so well. Only 3 days after his diagnosis he was injecting himself. He has been a massive inspiration to me and as soon as I found out that I had won the place in the Half Marathon the only thing I wanted to do was to use the place to do something to help and support Brandon in later life.
I have never run in a half marathon before and am nervous about being able to complete the distance to say the least! But knowing that people have sponsored me for such a worthy and fantastic cause gives me the boost I need on every traiing session to know that if Brandon can cope with this for the rest of his life then I can take a few steps more and run a little further each time.
Diabetes UK work to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. They support families who are dealing with diabetes, they fund pioneering research, they provide a careline providing information and support and put on roadshows conducting risk assessments referring anyone that is at moderate or high risk to their GP ensuring more people are getting diagnosed and getting the support they need sooner.
