Chasing the sun for Gorgeous George
On 24th June this year, five of us will be setting off to ‘Chase the Sun’ in memory of my son ‘Gorgeous George’ Fox who tragically lost his life aged just 13 years, on 12th April last year following a courageous battle with a Glioblastoma brain tumour.
George was our lively, funny, bright, kind and loyal 12 year old boy when out of the blue he was diagnosed with this horrific tumour, usually found in adults. He was rarely ill, loved animals and babies and wanted to be an architect when he grew up. He’s the adored big brother and soul mate to his little sister Issy, and a fantastic
younger brother to Jamie.
During those painful 11 months we watched our boy bravely deal with four brain surgeries, three different chemotherapies, various drugs,
painful immunotherapy injections and he never, ever moaned. Sadly because there hasn't been enough research into brain tumours and treatment has not changed in decades, there is still NO CURE for George’s type of tumour. We will never get over that we could not save our beautiful, precious boy. Our lives are shattered forever, there is a huge void in our family.
To remember George and raise much needed money in this area, myself and four friends have decided to take part in this bike ride, which covers 205 miles in just one day! Our team is made up of myself, Matt (George’s Dad), Jamie Garnish (my best mate), Michael Stewart (my mate and one of George’s besties Dads), Marc ‘Barnet’ Wood and Dave Neale (both great mates). George knew and adored all of these men, just as they adored him.
This bike ride is not for the faint hearted, and we really will be chasing the sun! We will set off at the Isle of Sheppey, at sunrise (4.40am) on 24th June, cycling 205 miles before the sun sets at 21.30pm in Weston Super Mare. We all watched George go through so much, and he always did it with a smile on his face and never moaned. In his honour we want to put our physical and mental strength to the test with this huge challenge.
We’ve would love to raise £10,000 to support the Tessa Jowell Foundation which is launching it’s services to include Centres of Excellence for Children.
The Tessa Jowell foundation's passion and vision really resonates with us. They're striving to make a real difference in the area of paediatric brain tumours. Not only with research and precision medicine, but so importantly with the care our children receive whilst going through this unbelievably devastating diagnosis.
We think together we can make a difference and hope that you will join us to make this happen. Any donation big or small will be appreciated, and if you could share with family and friends we would be grateful.
We will be thinking of Gorgeous George, and all of those other children’s lives lost sadly to brain tumours, the biggest killing cancer of our children, with every turn of our pedals.
Thanks for your support
Matthew Fox (George’s Dad), Jamie Garnish, Michael Stewart, Marc Wood & Dave Neale and never forgetting Angel George #Forever13
