Story

Edit

Hello there!

I have decided to pause this and take a break from the walk and so I will not complete the entire UK coastline anytime soon. However, I am looking to do some sort of solo walk in the future to raise money for the same charity.

Thank-you to everyone who has donated on here so far, it is greatly appreciated and the funds will go towards an amazing charity who does great work to help vulnerable women and children.

How did I get myself in to walking 16,000 miles around the UK coastline you ask, well…..

In May 2021, in a twist of fate, I met Daniel McNeil over near my home on the west coast of Scotland. Dan was on a walk around the UK coastline and after a friend told me he was heading my way, I had a strong feeling that I needed to meet the guy and find out why. So a message was sent and what was meant to be an afternoon of being his tour guide led to 4 days adventuring around Loch Fyne. After speaking every day and joining him for a few islands during the summer, I eventually left my job and life behind to join him on his epic challenge. This was no easy feat though as it was rapidly heading in to the winter months and we were about to tackle Orkney and all its islands during what was to be the worst winter they’ve had in years. Nothing like jumping head first in to the deep end ey!

My only kind of plan/thought was “if I can complete Orkney in the winter then I’ll do the whole thing” and here we are….. 900 miles later having done just that plus the toughest bits of the Scottish east coast. So, as I’ll be doing this for a good few years I’ve decided to raise money for a charity with aims close to my heart and will be raising money for Womens aid!

It’s a topic that i’m very aware of and I feel its a hush hush topic that needs to be talked about more. The voices of survivors and those suffering need to heard and not silenced any more!

“Domestic abuse affects us all; it thrives on being hidden behind closed doors. We must make it everybody’s business.”

Every donation, big or small will make a difference and will be greatly appreciated. But it’s not just about the money it’s also to raise awareness and get people talking about it more. So, if you can’t make a donation, look in to the topic of domestic abuse, ask some questions and find out the facts. You can also help out by giving this a share.
