Story
This page is to raise funds for any member of Charlotteville Cycling Club that is taking part in a Virtual London to Paris Cycle Ride on the weekend of Saturday February 2nd and Sunday February 3rd at HA Fox Guildford. Come along on the day and give us some support.
What we are doing is taking part in a charity stationary cycling event and have some friendly competition between two local cycling clubs (which is where we've been invited).
H.A. Fox Jaguar in Guildford are launching their Sportbrake XF estate as seen with Team Sky Pro-Cycling on the first weekend on February. They have the support of Evans Cycles already who will be providing equipment, staff and bikes from their 2012 and 2013 ranges for the event, Jaguar Academy of Sport have been asked to provide a VIP as well.
They have invited Simon Kidd (FCCC and close Charlotteville CC club friend and regular club event attendee) to bring along his Power Training system, this allows up to 6 bikes to be computer logged for distance, effort etc. and a screen to show the route in video form making the Saturday and Sunday of the 2nd and 3rd of February will be a fantastic chance to ride from London to Paris, without getting wet or even having to speak a word of French (hence Simon's appeal from Facebook earlier this week about whether anyone has a video of the route).
There will be 2 clubs, Charlotteville and Farnborough & Camberley CC, for some friendly competition, with up to 3 bikes slots each, from 10am on each day through til 4 or 5pm, aiming to get to Paris in that time, either individually or as an aggregate (it's 280ish miles btw) so 13 hours would need an average speed of over 20mph for it to be individual bikes. Relaying will be the order of the day, with members of both clubs coming along at various times and contributing, along with some guest cyclists from our dealership and maybe even a VIP or 2.
They anticipate press and Jaguar coverage of this, and will be putting a Charity prize up to supplement any sponsorship that we raise here and on the day.
