Story

Corporate Comms will be taking on the River Thames and power walking from Richmond to London Bridge on Friday 30th October.  We will cover over 17 miles (that’s 27.5km!) in 10c temperatures – sound like a challenge to you? It does to us!

We will be racing against the clock, to get to our final destination in under 5 hours, whilst battling against the London tourists and rugby world cup followers warming up for the final the next day.

We are fundraising for Charlotte's Challenge - SDR through Tree of Hope. This charity is close to our hearts, as one member of the team is close friends with Charlotte’s parents. Charlotte's parents have had unimaginable heartache over the last few years, having lost Charlotte's elder sister and then Charlotte's twin sister to Meningitis.

Charlotte is a 3-year-old little girl, who survived a life threatening condition whilst still in the womb, called Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTs).  Charlotte was later diagnosed at 18 months with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diaplegia. She is now unable to stand or walk unaided, has very tight muscles in her hips, legs and ankles, which cause her a great deal of pain, balance and coordination difficulties.

Charlotte’s parents are now fundraising for a life-changing treatment, called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).  SDR involves cutting specifically damaged nerves attached at the base of the spine, hopefully relieving of at least most of her spasticity if not all. The optimum age for this surgery is 2-4 years old as the longer the spasticity is there the more damage it will do.
