We can't thank this charity enough for basically keeping this little Miracle alive !!
Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart. As the baby develops during pregnancy, the left side of the heart does not form correctly. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is one type of congenital heart defect. Congenital means present at birth.
A three part surgery is required for survival performed at a few days, a few months and then roughly five years old. 60% will live to their fourth birthday.
Life expectancy is estimated at 14 years old but is different for each individual case, the oldest in the UK are reaching their 30s. A heart transplant is often required to live past the early teens.
HLHS will effect the child's capabilities and they will be limited in many ways, but the majority of these children will lead happy lives for however long we are blessed to have them.
