We help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them

Story

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my just giving page.

I suppose I could start by saying that our Rhys was ineffable: Too great to be expressed with words.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour on the 1st of March 2011, at just 15 years old. Cancer is a heavy burden for anyone to carry, let alone someone going through adolescence and exams, but his strength was nothing less than admirable. Every curve ball that life threw at him, he caught it and threw it right back.

With 8 months age difference between us, we grew up very fond of one another. He filled my life with joy whenever he was around. We used to stay with our grandparents together and we would make blanket forts and skip down to the penny shop to buy cola cubes. We would spend our summer days catching tadpoles and throwing wood chips at each other in the park. Saturday mornings were always fun rearranging our grandad Brian's model cars, seeing how long it would take for him to notic and then fighting over whose turn it was to play beehive bedlam on telefax. Our teenage years seperated us slightly, but it was always lovely to see him at family events. He never changed, not in the entire time that he was here. He loved cars, he loved riding his bike. He loved science and maths. He was our boy.

His battle with cancer was a long one, but not once did he give up. During his final few months, he resided at Cransley Hospice. No matter how much pain he was in, he'd manage a smile whenever we arrived for a visit, a hot McDonald's apple pie ready for him. I will never forget the last time I saw him. I held his hand as we watched his meet and greet with The Killers on his laptop. Although he was sleepy, I could tell he was enjoying looking back on this exciting memory.

Rhys passed away on May 5th 2013. The world suddenly felt heavier. How could life be so cruel to take someone so kind and genuine?

But I want to do this in his name. I want to be close to him, to the sky. I want to show our boy that no matter what, we won't stop fighting for him. Clic Sargent did so much for Rhys and his family, now I want to give something back, but I can't do it without your support. I'd like to thank all of those that have been a huge support network since Rhys left us, and those that have already donated. Your pennies make a huge difference to families, restoring some calm and light to a dark storm.

Rest in Peace Rhys. Always thinking of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
