Story
Charlotte will be taking part in the Great North Run 2022 to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of Charlotte's mum, Cate Skayman. Cate sadly passed away in January last year and is missed by us all every day. Cate should have had so much of her life still ahead of her. She showed incredible bravery and strength throughout her cancer journey and we are all so proud of how she dealt with everything. She was, is and always will be an inspiration to us all.
There are sadly so many stories of people with bowel cancer not getting a diagnosis early enough because they are "too young" or they have had symptoms brushed off as IBS/nothing to worry about, which should not be happening. Early diagnosis could save your life. Bowel Cancer UK continue to campaign for changes to take place.
Since Cate was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2018 we have wanted to do all we can to raise awareness of the disease and contribute to the ongoing research and support that Bowel Cancer UK provides. Bowel Cancer is currently the UK's second biggest cancer killer.
Cancer isn't a battle to win or lose but together we can fight for new treatments to save lives. We don't lose people, friends don't succumb to it, loved ones weren't too weak and they certainly didn't lose their battle. It's not something we win or lose, when it's out of our control.
We'd like to help increase the survival rates and support for people with advanced bowel cancer and ultimately stop people dying of this disease. We also want to raise awareness of the disease which will hopefully encourage others to spot the symptoms and be persistent if they are concerned.
- Bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo
- A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason
- A pain or lump in your tummy
Any support/donations towards this cause really are appreciated.
