We safe and decent homes for families to build new lives, hopes and opportunities

Story

When reading the email from Chris Tinker dated 24 June regarding Habitat for humanity, I have to say I felt instant excitement.  I cant beleive I have been selected for one of the 12 spaces available for this opportunity of a lifetime.

About 6 months ago I did a parachute jump in order to raise money for a building project in Uganda.  The sense of achievement on completing the jump was indescribable and gave me an instant hunger to do something else to help raise money for such a worthy cause.

I have a family of my own and my son Oliver who is 5 years old takes up all of my spare time so usually I would browse over such an email and move onto the next but I have such a strong desire to do this, that with the help and support from my family, they have given me their blessings to apply.

I have worked for Crest Nicholson South for 7 years now and my length of service shows my total commitment and loyalty to the company.  As a Sales Advisor Team Leader, I feel that I am in the perfect role as a team player to inform others, including our purchasers of the nature of habitat for humanity’s work and the contribution the company’s efforts are making.

My Career within Crest has always been sales and customer focus based and although I have a good understanding of the construction side, this is a perfect opportunity for me to get my hands dirty and experience the manual labour side of the business – with the perfect results:

HOME = LIFE

For Habitat for Humanity, HOME=LIFE sums up perfectly how having a decent HOME is the key to living a LIFE that is free from poverty, fear or neglect.  With my help and great team work, we could give families a stable foundation with a sense of dignity and pride. It leads to improved health, safety and security and helps them to improve their education and employment opportunities.

I have been lucky enough to experience “travelling” and have visited Africa & Asia etc so I know I can do without my luxuries  (For 10 days)!! and am really going to relish the opportunity to help make a difference to others.

About the charity

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
