Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Charlottes JustGiving page.

The picture above shows Charlotte with her mum and dad 10 months ago on holiday.

Charlotte passed away on June 17th 2014 after being diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour in her peritoneum on 21st January 2014.

Charlotte never complained about her disease and .never said 'why me' she was the bravest person you could ever meet and even when very sick was always thinking about others before herself and trying to keep up with the outside world via Facebook even though for the last three months of her life she was bed bound.

Charlotte was bright, beautiful and full of potential coming to the end of 5 years studying at college and university to fulfil her ambition of a successful career in the catering industry. To this end working part-time cooking for elderly residents at BUPA Westmoor View Nursing Home Middlesbrough. The residents loved Charlottes cakes and Charlotte made lovely Rainbow cakes for family, friends and colleagues.

Charlotte never had a days illness and loved work and play. She had a great sense of humour and loved spending time with friends and family.

Charlotte was snowboarding the first week in January in Austria this year and noticed her tummy was a little bloated. When she got home she went to see her GP who sent her for a scan and fluid was found (Ascites). Charlotte was immediately admitted to hospital for tests and a week later Cancer was diagnosed. Then further diagnosed as a very aggressive stage 4 tumour in her peritoneum, a derivative of Sarcoma.

After 8 weeks in hospital and two aggressive forms of Chemotherapy treatment Charlotte now looked 9 months pregnant. Nothing could stop the growth of the tumour which had now metastasised to her pelvis, spine and lung. As it could not be shrunk surgery was ruled out and on the 19th March Charlotte was given the news that her condition was incurable. The only time Charlotte got upset was when her mum was crying and not eating properly. She continued to maintained her sense of humour and insisted on going home.

The only thing Charlotte wanted was a kitten with white socks so she could call it Mittens.

Charlottes wish was granted two weeks before she passed away. In that two weeks Charlotte and Mittens made such a strong bond between them that Mittens would get up for something to eat in the morning jump on his mum's bed and sleep all day or play for her. It was a picture to watch. When Charlotte passed away Mittens stayed by her side until the undertakers had been and when I couldn't find her later she was asleep on Charlottes bed and all the next day.

So why have I created this justgiving page for Charlotte.

Charlotte knew very early on the seriousness of her disease and faced it like the true fighter she was. The doctors expected her to last only a few days from the 19th March but she was still fighting nearly 3 months on.

As such Charlotte was very keen that because she had the rarer form of the disease if she could do something to help others such as be involved in a trial or just to keep her biopsies for the future then at least something good would come out of her illness even if nothing else could be done for her. To this end her biopsies were even sent to Boston USA by the Best Doctors scheme to be looked at by a specialist in this area but unfortunately the Professor at the Harvard Medical School was in full agreement with his UK counterparts and nothing further could be done for Charlotte apart from make her as comfortable as possible at home.

Charlotte's last wishes were to raise as much money as possible to help fight this disease and for her mum and dad her brother Christopher and her Sister Sarah to look after her cat and be happy along with all her mates. She did not want any fuss and wants all her mates and everyone who knew to do well think of those who may be worse off than themselves be kind to others but to get on and enjoy their lives and live them to the full.

Charlotte's funeral is on the 27th June 2014 and as a special request to get Charlottes fund raising page off the ground has asked that instead of flowers would all her mates and anyone who knows her or her family would they please consider donating to Sarcoma via her just giving page.

Before Charlotte passed away she also asked me to pass on her thanks and to say well done to all her work mates from BUPA Westmoor View Nursing Home Middlesbrough for completing the Lyke Wake walk and raising over a £1000.00 for Sarcoma. Ironically those who know the Lyke Wake walk and its meaning will know that with just 12 miles to go Charlotte lost her battle with this disease. Passing away peacefully in her mum and dad's arms just like when she was born 21 years ago.

If any friends and family are reading this can we thank you whole heartedly for being a friend to us and Charlotte and as a family we wish you all the very best for the futures.

Rest in peace our Charlie you gave your mum and dad, Sarah and Christopher 21 years of joy.

Charlotte Pocklington 11th March 1993 - 17th June 2014 RIP
