Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This will be my third 10K race for life as a cancer survivor. I realise the importance of fund raising for vital research to find a cure for this deadly disease, so please give whatever you can, it all helps. Thank you. xx
My Story......I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2014 - I found a lump whilst I was still breast feeding my daughter and with my family history of cancer I knew it was best not to delay, so went straight off to my doctor who referred me to the cancer clinic in Portsmouth - after several biopsies and other tests and scans I was diagnosed with an Invasive ductile carcinoma - after a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and then radiotherapy, I finally finished my treatment in June 2015.
I am now on Tamoxifen for the next 9+ years which is an anti cancer drug which strips oestrogen from my body - thereby stopping another oestrogen receptor positive cancer returning and has launched me into an early menopause.
I was so thankful to have survived cancer and the treatment that I decided to completely change my lifestyle, eat healthy and get fit - I got myself a personal trainer in August and I joined Slimming World in September 2015 (1 year after my cancer diagnosis) and despite being told I would struggle to lose weight I had lost 3.5 stone by April 2016.
In July 2016 I ran my first Races for Life 10k & 5K (back to back) raising £900 for cancer research. I then ran the Great South Run 10 Miles in October 2016 raising another £450, this time for MND. In July 2017 I ran Race for life Portsmouth 10K beating my PB and raising £345 for Cancer Research UK.
Since my cancer treatment I have found a new passion in running and hope to be able use it to raise lots of money for cancer research and other charities, I would be so grateful for your help. xx
