Team David are a group of David (DD's) friends, neighbours and teachers, who are committed to raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity and to carrying on the work of DD and his family,Toby,Sacha, Rufus and Holly whilst also making a difference to the lives of other children with brain tumours.

The team consists of 25 people: Sian Highnam, Jim Highnam, Tom Highnam, Deborah Batten, George Hewett, Charlotte Hewett, Jules Lobb, Caroline Doran, Kristie Jell, Paul Beveridge, Susan Ryrie, Lucy Meadows, Sam Lyndsay, Annette Lawrence, Louise Cowling, Lucy Lambourne, Jo McDouall, Alf Pyrne, Anna Way, Ben Pyrke, Sarah Kendall,Miranda Hewett.

We are participating in the Bupa Ten Mile Great South Run on October 28th in memory of DD and to gain as many donations for the charity as possible!

David's story, and his courage and bravery have inspired so many people. Aged 11, DD discovered he had a brain tumour. He fought the tumour with 2 brain operations, 6 weeks of daily highly agressive radiotherapy and weekly chemotherapy followed by 48 weeks of combined chemotherapy. He astonished doctors when he came out of this process fighting but still had numerous shunt operations to endure. Alongside all this treatment, David still managed to have piano lessons with Sian, maintain a remarkable spirit, inspire others and make his friends smile with his sense of humour! When the cancer returned to his spine two years later, he endured cruelly aggressive treatment, and against all the odds, managed to beat the disease again.

However, in May 2012 he soon learnt that the cancer had returned for the last time, and this time he was given weeks to live. As with previous battles, DD's courage astounded those around him and in the wider community.

Members of Team David are determined to continue the family's work, and by raising much needed funds for the Samantha Dixon Brain trust, the work of Headsmart can continue to raise awareness of the symptoms of brain tumours, so they are spotted early, enabling treatment to start earlier and save many lives. We are running for Head Smart, but also to show our love to DD, Sacha, Toby, Rufus and Holly.
