Story
It's year 3 of this Race for Life tradition venture thingy and I've actually been TRAINING for it this time.
Well... I say training. I mean attempting to train. Like, I've started the Couch to 5k programme twice this year and not quite made it past week 6 (of 9) yet. Let's blame the chocolate overdoses experienced at Christmas and Easter for that...
ANYWAY.
I set myself a goal after last year that I would run the whole 5k this year, and it's suddenly occurred me I've only got two weeks to get my bum in gear . Theoretically, the goal of running all 5k is still achievable. I mean, I can run a whole 25 mins continuously now - well, when I've not had an entire pizza the night before, anyway - so the way I see it, this pans out one of three ways:
- I ditch all chocolate, train super hard and breeze through the Race for Life like a sprightly gazelle.
- I run really fast and get around the course in 25 mins or less.
- I collapse in a heap mid-run; wait for the resuscitation crew to attend to me; get up and carry on running; collapse again at the end.
It will certainly be an achievement whatever the outcome. And my dear daddy, who we sadly lost to lung cancer two years ago, would either be immensely proud or extremely amused. So it's a win-win really.
My lovely mum, best friend Steph, and Aunt Jenny will be participating again this year - admittedly at a slower pace - and we're also joined by my Aunty Jenny's friend Connie. The consortium grows once again!
