Donna and I had decided to run London Marathon together for MS-UK, with a pandemic striking in 2020, we were unable to, however we are very fortunate to have been offered a chance again in 2023. Unfortunately, 4 weeks ago, I became injured and have had to withdraw, but Donna is still flying the flag for our chosen charity.
The reason we have chosen the charity MS-UK is because, in February of 2012, Neil, my husband, was rushed into hospital, he was unable to walk and had no balance and was constantly being sick, this was a very worrying time and he left the hospital nearly 3 weeks later in a wheelchair, with no strength and very little balance, it was a worrying time and in March of that year, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
It’s been an uphill struggle trying different medications, but 10 years on, Neil is fitter than he has ever been, he regularly spins and cameos on special occasions with Michelle's Running group. The pandemic was hard for us as Neil had to isolate for six months, not even allowed to walk outside, but he’s back working and living a healthy life. We are very proud of what he has been able to achieve and are thankful to the funds raised by MS charities, as without their support and all the money that goes to research, it may have been a very different outcome.
Most to the time, I feel helpless and can only be there for Neil to support him, so by raising money for the charity, it makes me feel that at least I'm trying to do something, and that maybe one day they might find a cure.
